Haverhill, MA – Valley Jr. Warrior EHL forward Brian Smith has committed to Worcester State University for the fall of 2018. Smith played two seasons with the Warriors.

In his 40 games this 2017-18 season, Smith put up 10 goals and 16 assists for a total of 26 points.

“Brian is a tenacious kid on the puck, loose pucks or challenging defensemen in the corner, loose pucks in the front. If he loses it from a back check he’ll stop hard and go after it hard instead of making a big loop. He’s very very competitive, always had the ability to score and he did that this year for us,” Head Coach Andy Heinze said of Smith’s game.

His competitive edge has helped lead him down a successful path that eventually led to college hockey.

“My time with the Warriors was incredible. I learned so many things and developed as a player so much over the past two years, coach Heinze and coach Tabb were big influences and great teachers of the game for me,” said Smith.

The former Dracut High stand-out uses his large 6’1 frame to his advantage. “I think he’s going to do a good job in college hockey, uses his size really well, I think he’s a kid that has a lot of intangibles that will allow him to do a really nice job,” said Heinze.

“Playing in the EHL against great competition game in and game out pushed me to always need to be at the top of my game, it has all helped to allow me to get to the next level,” Said Smith.
